The Greek School of Bucharest "Athena" was established in 2008, with the aim of providing high quality education based on the strong foundations and values of the Greek culture and heritage. The school was founded with the support of the Hellenic Ministry of Education, and under the auspices of the Embassy of the Hellenic Republic in Romania, in response to demand by the large Greek community in Romania.

Based on the Greek school curriculum and accredited by the Hellenic Ministry of Education, the school is operated by the Parents Association and supported by some of the leading Greek corporations active in Romania. The school targets primarily children of the Greek and Cypriot communities and Romanians wishing to strengthen ties with Greece.
