Q: What accreditation does the school have?
A: The Greek School of Bucharest "Athena" is accredited by the Hellenic Ministry of Education. Procedures are under way to also obtain accreditation from the Romanian Ministry of Education.

Q: How many classes / what grades does the school have?
A: For the school year 2010-'11, the school has two kindergarten levels (for children aged 4-5 years) and grades 1-6.

Q: Can pupils transfer from other schools (Greek, Romanian or international) to the Greek School of Bucharest? What about from the Greek School?
A: Pupils may transfer from any school at any time to the Greek School of Bucharest. For enrollment, the pupils must present a transfer form issued by the last school attended. Additionally, the pupil can also transfer from the Greek School of Bucharest to any other school, including the Greek or Romanian public or private schools.

Q: Does the child have to speak Greek language in order to be accepted in the school?
A: We encourage that the child have basic knowledge of Greek language in order to more easily follow the class. There is more flexibility for kindergarten and first grade, whereas basic Greek language is mandatory for the upper grades as it becomes difficult for the child to follow the pace of the class otherwise.

Q: Do the parents or children have to hold Greek citizenship in order to enroll in the school?
A: Starting with the 2009-'10 academic year, the school accepts Romanian or international students, granted they have some basic knowledge of the Greek language in order to be able to actively participate in classes.

Q: What is the curriculum for the Greek School of Bucharest?
A: The curriculum of the Greek School of Bucharest is based on the National Greek Curriculum as approved by the Hellenic Ministry of Education.

Q: What other languages are taught in the school?
A: The main curriculum is taught in Greek language. However, English and Romanian language courses are included in the programme.

Q: Are Greek language classes available for children, outside of the regular classes ?
A: Optional after-school Greek language classes are offered twice per week, between 5 - 7 p.m. For more information on enrollment into the classes, please contact the school.
